The World's Most Secretive State: In Conversation with the former UK Ambassador to North Korea
Time & Location
About the Event
Join us for a discussion on daily life in the most secretive nation in the world, with the former British Ambassador to North Korea!
As the British Ambassador to North Korea, Mr Everard had the rare opportunity of living there from 2006, when the DPRK conducted it's first nuclear test, until 2008. In his book 'Only Beautiful, Please: A British Diplomat in North Korea' Everard reflected on his experience and offered a more personal narrative of North Korea, which moved away from the dominant tale centred around militarisation, nuclear proliferation and the personality cults of its leaders. As an expert on the nation, Mr Everard acted as coordinator for the United Nations Panel for sanctions against North Korea.
During our event, Mr Everard will cover his experience living and working as the UK Ambassador to North Korea. As an expert on the country, Mr Everard will also give us an insider perspective on how COVID has affected North Korea and what future developments we are to expect!
In addition, Mr Everard will discuss his experience building a successful career in diplomacy and share his advice for future diplomats!
